This is just to gauge the feeling of current guild members and trialists, it does not mean acceptance policy will change, it does not mean you will be kicked or demoted if you don't have one etc.

When you answer think as if you are a new person looking for a guild to join.

Considering the current and recent attacks there have been against WoW we need to look forward and plan for renewed interest with Cataclysm.

Everyone in this guild works for the good of it and no one wants to see that stop.

Cheers,

Bubble.

I love my authenticator, it lets me sleep well at night and I don't have to worry so much about logging inn to be grated by a naked guild less Veroxa. Good investment inn my opinion. Granted you can get hold of one where you live that is.

I don't think any one that have been hacked would want to go through it agen and I never which to have the experience my self. i.e. i bought my authenticator half a year ago when we first saw an increase inn the attacks on accounts and haven't regretted it since

So yes I think every one should have them as I honestly think it is such an "cheap" insurance of your account, and your own and the guilds well-being,when it comes to the risk of getting your account and inn game assets stolen.

I don't think there is a person who reads the forums who is in any doubt as to my opinion.

As to whether I would object to it being a condition of me passing a trial:

I think if I took a dispassionate view, I would see that there were good reasons for such measures.

Initially, I would probably resent being told how to play because that's in my nature, but I would come round I believe.

Oh, and btw, I have one :) Like Veroxa says, it keeps me happy knowing that I have at least made it another stage harder for the baddies.

Is there any realistic way this could be implemented though? I mean there is nothing stopping someone "saying" they have one ;)

Perhaps a better system would be for an authenticator to be required to gain access to the guild vault and not be a requirement to raid.
A guild member that shows his or her Core Hound to a general would get a promotion to a rank which allows guild vault access.
It seems to me the most important thing about being hacked from a guild stand point is having the vault contents stolen. Forcing people to spend real money on something just to raid with us seems a bit harsh.

True, but you might want to also think about the further reaching consequences of being hacked too.

The hacked character pretty much instantly invades trade chat, spamming whatever crappy gold seller sales they work for. While it's doing that, it's our guild name that is attached to it.

The character also starts a whisper sales campaign trying to scam more people onto their phishing sites or whatever.

Look at what starts happening to our raid sign ups.

In the last 2 instances (Ben and Kasmik), the hackees have been raiders signed up for impending raids.

The raid leader is then in a position of having to replace that person at sometimes very short notice - this has a direct impact on the raid for instance tonight, we only have five main spec healers.

The GV, is largely irrelevant as we get the stuff back. And the only person that can cause any serious damage is the GM.

I would have put another option on the poll.

Yes it's a good idea because it will protect my own account as well as the guild as a whole.

There will come a point where Blizzard will refuse to refund items to hacked players unless they have the authenticator for 2 reasons.

a. They make yet more money
b. they have to employ someone to look into the theft, which costs them money

My authenticator is ordered :)

Although I never get a virus etc doesnt mean it CANT happen. The big mistake that people make is YES im running Anti-virus, Anti-spyware software BUT I NEVER RUN A VIRUS CHECK!!!!!!

I run and update AVG and SPYBOT on a weekly basis on a Monday. Ran one today and not a single hit. Not even a tracking cookie lol.

Just make sure they are protecting IE or Firefox and ya pretty much ok :)

Just got myself the authenticator app for my iphone, works exactly the same as the one you buy from blizzard but is free, also works if you have an ipod touch. If your interested in these look here:
